DFI Week Two: Work Flow

With today's introduction to the 'Learn' aspect of the pedagogy it was interesting to have an explanation of the difference between recognise, amplify and turbocharge. The simple table that Dorothy shared in her slides really helped me to separate these in my mind because it inlcuded links to things that I regularly use.

Our exercise this afternoon of recording our screen while discussing a blog post with our buddy was great, I really enjoyed viewing the different blogs from learners. I also thought that in my own context of a New Entrant team, it would be a worthwhile exercise to do a screen recording (maybe using screen castify - I'll ask our local facilitator about the best tool for this) getting children to look at pictures/video and discuss them. This would be a great tool to use to record development in oral language over the course of the year.

Here is my discussion with Jenny about Benjamin's blog post - I love how he involved his Dad in the recreation and I wonder if he didn't have the 'Share' aspect to his learning whether or not he would have spoken about his ANZAC learning with his Dad. What a cool way for him to share the learning with his Dad while they created the recreation - and then to share with a wider audience once he shared it on his blog as well.

DFI Week One - Core Business

Our introduction to DFI this week provided background into the creation of Manaiakalani and included lots of tips & tricks to help us to be more efficient when using Google Suite. I especially enjoyed hearing about the journey before the devices were 1:1, and how it could work in the context of a NE Classroom. I have also been loving the 'Pin Tab' tip that was passed onto me by a colleague who has previously completed DFI. This saves our team of teachers alot of time throughout the day! Before today I have mostly used Slides as my go to for formatting documents, but enjoyed learning more about formatting headings and subheadings, especially for the whole document to make the process alot quicker. This is going to help me both in a professional sense at school as well as formatting my assignments outside of work.

Our Team of New Entrants respond really well to visual cues - so I really enjoyed creating an infographic and learning how to use a table to format it. This will not only prove valuable for our tamariki but will also support my personality type that usually takes a long time formatting creations in order to make them perfect! The simple infographic I created will be put to use in our class as of Monday, fingers crossed it saves us from picking up all the jerseys at the end of each day...
